City was left spellbound and fascinated, as Mr. Lawrence Bender, multiple time Academy Award winner and celebrated Hollywood producer and documentary film maker showcased his latest documentary ‘COUNTDOWN TO ZERO’ on March 17 at Fun Cinemas hosted by Niret and Nikhil Alva, India’s Ace documentary film makers.

COUNTDOWN TO ZERO traces the history of the atomic bomb from its origins to the present state of global affairs: nine nations possessing nuclear weapons capabilities with others racing to join them, with the world held in a delicate balance that could be shattered by an act of terrorism, failed diplomacy, or a simple accident.

Following its Sundance Film Festival bow, the film was also shown at this year’s Global Zero Summit in Paris and at the TED Conference in Long Beach, California.

The screening was followed by an intriguing interactive session with Lawrence, Niret and Nikhil Alva with a niche set of audience which included city’s eminent personalities such as – Asin, Abhay Deol, Diana Hayden, Nandita Das, Shekhar Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Gaurav Chopra, and Anurag Kashyap.

Freida Pinto The Next Bond Girl

The Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto is all set to sizzle on screen, as the next Bond girl. The next Bond project will star Daniel Craig as James Bond, and will be directed by Kate Winslet’s separated husband Sam Mendes. According to reports by Britain’s Daily Mirror, the movie will be set in Afghanistan. This will be the 23rd James Bond movie.

Olivia Wilde is also rumored to be in talks with the production house to be cast as the second Bond girl in the movie, alongside Freida Pinto and Daniel Craig.

According to a source, “Sam (Mendes) has been talking about Bond for months now and is so excited about it. The project has been in the pipeline for months and Freida was always the dream Bond girl, but initially she was nervous about accepting it. This is going to be the most ambitious 007 yet. Sam plans to reinvent the genre.” The source also added that Peter Morgan scriptwriter of ‘The Queen’ also already finished the first draft of the Bond movie, and the production house promises that the movie will be visually stunning.

Freida Pinto is in a relationship with her Slumdog Millionaire co-star Dev Patel. Dev is also very happy with the way Freida’s career is progressing. He was heard joking to his friends that he would be delighted to see Freida rolling with James Bond.

2008 National Film Awards – Pictures

The 56th National Film Awards for the year 2008 were conferred by hon’ble President of India Pratibha Devi Singh Patil at a glittering function in Vigyan Bhawan. Bala for Naan Kadavul (Tamil) received the Best Director award from President.

Gubbachigalu (Kannada) was received Best Children’s Film award. Best Actress (Priyanka Chopra for Fashion), Best Supporting Actress (Kangna Ranaut for Fashion), Best Supporting Actor (Arjun Rampal for Rock On!) received their awards rectplively.
